Counsellor Background and Values
Counsellor Background
My journey into counselling has been shaped by years of supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges, trauma, psychosocial disabilities, and significant life transitions. Before becoming a counsellor, I worked for over seven years as a Support Worker, partnering with people living with anxiety, depression, and other complex mental health conditions to help them build confidence, independence, and meaningful lives.
Throughout my career, I have seen firsthand the impact that compassionate listening, genuine connection, and practical support can have on a person’s wellbeing. I have helped clients develop achievable goals, strengthen coping strategies, improve self-esteem, navigate employment, and reconnect with their communities. These experiences inspired me to pursue professional counselling so I could provide deeper therapeutic support and walk alongside people during some of life’s most challenging moments.
Today, I provide person-centred, trauma-informed, and strengths-based counselling in a safe, respectful, and non-judgemental environment. I support adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, and life transitions. My approach integrates evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, motivational interviewing principles, and practical goal setting tailored to each person’s unique needs.
I believe every individual has the capacity for growth, healing, and resilience. My role is not to tell people how to live their lives, but to provide a supportive space where they feel heard, understood, and empowered to discover their own strengths and move towards meaningful change.
My Values
Compassion
I believe healing begins when people feel genuinely heard, respected, and accepted without judgement. Every client deserves empathy, kindness, and understanding.
Respect
Each person’s story is unique. I honour individual experiences, values, culture, identity, and personal choices while creating a space where clients feel safe to be themselves.
Empowerment
Rather than focusing solely on problems, I help clients recognise their strengths, build confidence, and develop practical skills that support long-term wellbeing and independence.
Collaboration
Counselling is a partnership. Together we identify goals, explore challenges, and work towards meaningful outcomes at a pace that feels right for each client.
Integrity
I am committed to providing ethical, confidential, and professional counselling that upholds the highest standards of practice and creates trust within the therapeutic relationship.
Hope
Even during life’s most difficult seasons, positive change is possible. I believe every person has the capacity to heal, grow, and create a life aligned with their values and aspirations.

IAbout Me
Hello, I’m Lorraine, an ACA Level 2 Registered Counsellor (24407), and I’m passionate about providing a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported.
My approach is person-centred, which means I believe you are the expert in your own life. I see counselling as a collaborative process where we work together to explore your experiences, identify your strengths, and move towards the goals that are most meaningful to you.
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent over seven years supporting individuals living with psychosocial disabilities and complex mental health challenges. I have worked alongside people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, eating disorders, grief and loss, low self-esteem, and life transitions. These experiences strengthened my belief in the importance of empathy, genuine connection, and creating a space where people feel accepted without judgement.
My practice is informed by my Bachelor of Psychology and Counselling, ongoing professional development, and evidence-based approaches including person-centred therapy, trauma-informed care, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and strengths-based practice. Every counselling session is tailored to your individual needs, goals, and pace, supporting you to build resilience, gain insight, and create meaningful change.
I believe everyone deserves a space where they feel safe, heard, and accepted without judgement. It is an honour to walk alongside you, supporting you as you navigate life’s challenges and move towards greater wellbeing.
